Aesthetic Cognitivism & The Prospects of Criticism

How do we gain knowledge from art? What forms can that knowledge take? How does perception guide knowledge, and how does knowledge guide perception? What is the role of art criticism in this process?

These are some of the philosophical questions we will be looking to ask and answer within the framework of our research project, Aesthetic Cognitivism and the Perception, and the Prospects of Criticism. 

Funded by the Templeton Religion Trust, the project's initial phase ran from May 2022 to August 2023. The second, larger phase of the project runs from June 2024 until June 2027.
